Rachel Foxwell - Landscape Vessels I am fascinated by the concept of capturing compisitions found within the natural landscape and interpreting them as surfaces for elemental objects to be placed within habitual spaces. The impressions of the Cornish coast line are a continuous great source of inspiration in my work. The surfaces I create reflect the ever changing patterns and reflections of the sand in contrast to the sea. My vessels are built by hand, using the slab process. This enables me to treat the clay as a canvas onto which I create patterns and textures with layers of slips and oxides using paper resist and printmaking techniques. I apply glazes to the interior to portray the function of the space and to project a reflective and precious apperance against the matt stone like apperance. |
